was born into a family of classical musicians. Her grandmother was an exceptional cellist, who was one of very few female cellists to study with the internationally celebrated cellist, Emmanuel Feuermann. Rebecca is also the daughter of Simon Carrington, a British conductor and founder of the vocal ensemble the King’s Singers.
Rebecca herself is a classically trained cellist & singer, who won a scholarship to the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, UK and to Rice University in Houston, USA, where she completed a Master of Music. Whilst in the USA, Rebecca discovered stand up comedy and decided to combine it with her vocal and cello talents. She soon began performing in clubs like the New York Comedy Club or the Comedy Store in L.A.
In the UK she played with most of the leading orchestras including the London Symphony, London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, the BBC Symphony and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. It was during this time that conductors such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Claudio Abbado & Neemi Järvi, encouraged her to spring out of the orchestra and on to the stage!
As a freelance cellist she also recorded on such film sound tracks as “Lord of the Rings”, “Harry Potter”, “Gangs of New York” and “Hannibal.” She also performed at the “BRITS 2006” with Kanye West and has performed and recorded with various Pop Artists such as Jill Scott, David Byrne, Paul Mcartney and Aretha Franklin.
In the US, NBC and CBS recorded Rebecca’s solo program, and she had her own show on National Public Radio (NPR). In the UK she was featured on ITV, Channel 4, Paramount, BBC Radio 2, 3, 4, BBC Scotland and LBC. She performed live in London at the Soho Theatre, Royal Court and The Playhouse, among others. She was awarded The South East Music Scheme Award in 2004 and the coveted German Prix Pantheon in 2007.
After selling out at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2004 & 2005 Rebecca became a full time music comedian taking her one woman show all over Europe before she developed the Duo Carrington-Brown with her husband, Colin Brown.
